Car Stolen From Lot Is Recovered

A car reported stolen from a local car lot was spotted by police officers on patrol overnight Monday.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that at around 2:15 a.m., an officer spotted the red, 1997 Pontiac Firebird abandoned on the east side of the Columbia State Community College building.

Officers found that the car had no tag except one that advertised the car lot. The key had been left in the lock on the trunk. A check of the vehicle identification number confirmed that it was the same car reported stolen from Auto Credit at 903 North Locust Avenue Monday.

Owners had reported that the keys had been left inside a number of cars on the lot, including the stolen one. The value of the car was reported to be $3,500. It was towed to the city’s impound lot pending further investigation.
